Antifacist action of the french anarchist federation

Monday, 9 November 2009, an action initiated by the Francophone Anarchist Federation took place in Paris. For a short time we peacefully, yet with determination, distributed leaflets, strung up a banner, and yelled slogans. This was done as part of our involvement in the European day of antifascist action. The chosen location, the Maison de l’Europe (European
House), is symbolic as we wanted to give our action a European dimension.

This symbolic action is part of the international antifascist struggle, but also part of the international campaign against detention centres led by the International of Anarchist Federations (IFA-IAF).

Antifascist and anarchist greetings to one and all!

Today as in the past, here and everywhere, ANTIFASCIST SOLIDARITY!

Today, Monday 9 November 2009, the Francophone Anarchist Federation is in the premises of the Maison de l’Europe (European House) in Paris.

On 9 November, since twenty years ago the Berlin wall came down.
On 9 November, since seventy-one years ago Kristallnacht occurred.
On 9 November, since across Europe on this symbolic day antifascists are
mobilised so that no such tragedy will ever occur again.

Years after these events very few things have truly changed.

Although the borders within Europe are now officially open, they are more closed than ever to people arriving from the poorest countries. They are also re-erected when social movements wish to converge internationally to struggle against their common oppressors.

If the Nazi regime has been relegated to the dustbins of history, there are still parties and movements which define themselves as such. In some European countries, antifascists risk their lives and have even died fighting against them.

Fascism is no longer a grotesque puppet used to frighten populations: its ideas are now being integrated into the workings of states which no longer necessarily lay claim to such heritage when they implement racist and xenophobic policies.

Although the Berlin wall came down, many a border has been erected around the continent and, inside it, unauthorised immigrants are tracked down, placed in detention centres, and deported.

In France, successive governments, both leftwing and rightwing, have adopted such policies and deported excessively, passed liberty-infringing laws in the name of security, and dishonestly drawn connections between immigration and crime: the recent remarks made by the French Interior Minister are further proof of this.

Today, on this symbolic day, the Francophone Anarchist Federation would like to remind one and all that we are here to fight against fascism and racism, in the streets, like in the highest echelons of the state.

Today, we salute our antifascist comrades across the world. And we remind those suffering from racist and xenophobic policies that we will always be at their sides.

Here and everywhere, today as in the past, let’s fight against fascism and racism!
